*The Three Warm Puppies*
Once upon a time, there were three tiny puppies. They were only three weeks old. Their eyes were just starting to open, like little windows.
One sad day, their mommy dog got sick and went to sleep forever. The puppies felt cold.
But a kind child and a kind grandmother found them.
"We will keep you warm," they said.
They made a cozy house from a cardboard box. Inside they put soft, soft blankets. Like a nest. They also put a warm bottle wrapped in a towel. It felt like mommy's tummy.
The puppies snuggled together. Snuggle, snuggle, snuggle. When they are together, they are not cold. When they are together, they are not scared.
Every three hours, the child feeds them. Not with a big bowl — that is too big! With a tiny syringe, very slowly. Drip, drip, drip. On their tummies, like they drank from mom.
After milk, the child helps them go pee-pee and poo-poo. With warm, wet cotton wool, gentle rub, rub, rub. Like mommy licking. One puppy can already poo by himself. He is so clever!
At night, the puppies make tiny sounds. Little snores. Little twitches. They are dreaming. Maybe they dream of running in soft grass.
Tomorrow, they will go in a car to see the vet. The vet will give them special puppy milk and a little bottle.
They are small, but they are strong. Because someone loves them and keeps them warm.
And they know: even when mom is gone, love stays, in a warm box, in a warm bottle, and in warm hands that hold them.
The end.
