Story Structure ACT I — THE APPOINTMENT The film opens with the political crisis surrounding the Supreme Court and the appointment of Renato Corona as Chief Justice in 2010. Behind closed doors, politicians debate whether his appointment was constitutional and whether he is politically aligned with then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Corona takes his oath and begins his tenure. Then President Benigno Aquino III assumes office. The relationship between the executive branch and the Supreme Court becomes increasingly tense. ACT II — THE IMPEACHMENT December 2011. The House of Representatives suddenly moves toward impeachment. The dramatic centerpiece is the filing of the impeachment complaint, eventually supported by 188 representatives. Newsrooms erupt. ANCHOR: “One hundred eighty-eight members of the House have signed the impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Renato Corona.” Corona's camp is stunned. The Senate prepares to transform itself into an impeachment court. ACT III — THE TRIAL January 2012. The Senate impeachment trial begins. This becomes the movie's courtroom centerpiece. The prosecution presents allegations concerning Corona's Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) and alleged failure to properly disclose assets, particularly dollar accounts. The defense argues that Corona is being politically persecuted and challenges the prosecution's interpretation of the evidence and constitutional issues. The senators become judges. The country watches. Every hearing becomes television. THE TURNING POINT The prosecution produces evidence concerning Corona's dollar accounts. The defense fights to prevent certain bank information from being admitted. The Senate must confront a crucial question: Can evidence concerning confidential dollar deposits be examined in the impeachment proceeding? The courtroom becomes increasingly divided. Corona eventually takes the witness stand. His testimony becomes one of the film's most dramatic sequences. ACT IV
