INT. SMALL APARTMENT – NIGHT A dim room. Rain taps against the window. YASSINE (25) sits alone at a table, staring at his phone. On the screen: “1 NEW VOICEMAIL.” He hesitates before pressing PLAY. His mother’s voice fills the room. MOTHER (V.O.) Yassine… call me when you get this. It’s important. The message ends. Yassine checks the time: 2:17 AM. He immediately calls her. No answer. He calls again. Nothing. He stands, worried. Suddenly— BUZZ. A new message appears. UNKNOWN NUMBER: Don’t call her. Yassine freezes. He types: YASSINE: Who is this? Three dots appear. YASSINE Why didn’t you tell me? A sound comes from behind him. CLICK. The apartment door unlocks. Yassine turns. The door slowly opens. His mother stands there. Alive. Yassine stares at her in disbelief. YASSINE Mom? She looks at the phone in his hand. MOTHER You got the message. YASSINE Who sent it? She doesn’t answer. Instead, she walks toward him. MOTHER I needed to know if you were ready. YASSINE Ready for what? She takes the photograph from his hand. MOTHER To know who your father really was. Silence. Yassine looks at her.
